Vegas takes a bus.
I know we all get worried about taking public transportation in a new city. Taipei is different though… …it’s freaking impossible. The subway is relatively easy because most of it is in English, but do you see this bus schedule? Luckily I have the assistance of some great social sponsors, google transit, and planetary alignment to get to where I’m going. My librarian friends will appreciate that they maintain a well-stocked library (albeit entirely in Chinese) at the front of the bus. From what I can tell there are some ‘ok’ magazines and some ‘real’ books. People don’t even steal them! They put them back! I think they put the library there to distract riders from the drivers’ incessant game of “brake-slamming-passenger-knock-down,” which is different from, but just as entertaining as “scooter dodge.” Lots of fun. They have these great luxe seats for ‘priority’ riders. Unfortunately, I can’t use these sweet seats since I’m not vomiting a cane, my stomach is not sparking, I haven’t had my leg amputated from a chopstick injury, and gratefully, I don’t have a tiny baby trying to crawl into my chest. I’m getting used to the public transportation but I still prefer to walk. Taipei is much larger than I thought it would be. Tex and I have a lot of exploring to do.
